A start-up by the students of National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK) in Mangaluru has launched a mobile app called Winkl to provide relevant, contextual and personalised information to consumers in shopping malls.

Addressing presspersons in Mangaluru on Friday, Thakur Rahul Singh, co-founder of Winkl, said that Winkl App, which is available on Google Play Store, will provide the real-time shopping feed from the nearby shopping outlets. The feeds include latest arrivals, offers and recommendations when the users are in shopping malls.

As users keep visiting different stores in the mall the content keeps loading on the phone based on users’ location and personal interests.

This way they will know which store they would like to walk into as they enter the mall or a particular floor in the mall. He said that this app will save the users a lot of time and help them experience the products they are interested in.

Singh said that they are expecting around 1,000 downloads of the app in the coming few days.

He said that Winkl has partnered with Forum Fiza Mall in Mangaluru to launch the app. Plans are there to launch this app in Bengaluru also.

Asked about the business model for the app, he said the store owners will be charged based on the walk-ins they get from Winkl app.
