Maxis’ Chief Executive Officer and Director of Aircel Sandip Das has resigned and the resignation will take effect from April 15.
The move comes amid reports that he may be joining the telecom arm of Reliance Industries.
“Maxis Berhad (Maxis) would like to inform that Sandip Das, Chief Executive Officer of Maxis whose tenure as CEO ends on June 30, 2013, has requested for an early release from office,” the Malaysian telecom firm said in a statement today.
Maxis holds 74 per cent stake in Aircel.
“The board has agreed to Sandip’s request, and accordingly he will relinquish his position as CEO and as a Director of Aircel, with effect from April 15, 2013,” it added.
Maxis had announced that it will appoint former Vodafone Executive Johan Dennelind in December as its new CEO from July 1, 2013.
During the intervening period, Maxis will have a committee comprising its Chief Financial Officer, Joint Chief Operating Officers under its Chairman to look after decision making and continuity of operations.
