Here’s a mobile phone app that could save women. When stalked by someone, all women need to do is to press the SOS button on the screen. That single click would send multiple messages to friends, relatives and security agencies. Why, it would even post the alert message on Facebook groups that are registered in the app settings. The made-in-India app, named Guardian, was developed by a group of IT major Microsoft employees over a period of six months. After initially testing in house, the company has decided to launch it on the App store.
The safety app is being available for Windows phone users. The recipients of the messages, however, need not use a Windows phone. Even feature phones could receive messages from the app. The app uses Microsoft’s Azure cloud service and Bing Map features to offer a tracking service. The users need to key in the numbers of those who they want to be informed when in distress. The app activates ‘track me’ feature that lets friends and family track them in real time, Microsoft IT India Managing Director Raj Biyani said.
Addressing a press conference here, he said the app can help securities authorities and medical teams track the user. “The phone can be traced even if it is broken. The app is capable of one touch video recording that may be used later as evidence,” he said.
