Microsoft India on Monday appointed Karan Bajwa as the new Managing Director of its sales and marketing group in the country.

As part of this planned transition, Sanket Akerkar, the current Managing Director, is moving back to the US to take up another assignment in the company, Microsoft India said in a statement.

Akerkar has been with Microsoft Corporation since 2003, and moved to the Indian subsidiary in 2010.

Bajwa will take up his new tenure from July and Akerkar will help with the transition until the end of July, it said.

He is currently the head of the enterprise business in India and will continue to be based out of Gurgaon, and will report to Bhaskar Pramanik, Chairman - Microsoft India. Bajwa has been with the company for over five years.

“Karan is a strong business leader who has always led from the front, and his successes both in Microsoft and prior to that are testimony to this. I am confident Karan’s strategic insights will help continue to grow the business in India,” Pramanik said.

In an additional planned transition, Floris van Heijst, General Manager – Marketing & Operations, Microsoft India, will take up a senior appointment within Europe in July. His replacement will be announced shortly, it said.

Floris joined Microsoft in 2005 and has been in India since 2010.
