As a move for hostile takeover of Mindtree has been unravelled, employees of the IT company have come out in public backing the founders.

The news of L&T Infotech readying a bid to take over Mindtree has turned social media into an outpost for employees to express their opinions. Most of them were against the takeover as they believed an acquisition, followed by possible merger and new management structures, would render many of them jobless or force them to check for newer job opportunities. “At a time when job offers are not strong, we fear that our roles will be dissolved,” said Chitra Ramaswamy, who works in the software team that works with US retailers.

#MindtreeMatters

A hashtag MindtreeMatters was used by employees to make their voices heard . Putrevu Subramanyam tweeted that it is a company that is built with culture at its core. It is built with a purpose and on course with its mission. Let the current management accomplish the mission, while creating value for shareholdersand an environment for Mindtree minds to succeed.

Others shared similar views. Nandan Kulkarni tweeted that six years of blood and sweat put into something that one believes. A lot of emotional and physical rollercoaster rides with a home one believes in because of values and culture, he said, adding that today it is being uprooted without a regard to any of this.

The tweets focussed on Mindtree’s culture, which the majority of its 20,000 employees felt will get compromised post any deal. An employee who calls himself ‘Mocking Jay’ tweeted: “It is the place of inception of my professionalism. Bagchi has correctly stated that Mindtree was not built as an asset, and that is reflected in OUR culture - we are all “Mindtree minds” here, not resources that can be bought.”

In an industry void of caring for individuals, Mindtree invented what matters — people and culture. #MindtreeMatters across the globe, tweeted Chris Manuel.

Earlier, Subroto Bagchi, one of the co-founders announced his return to the company, a few years after he took up a job at Odisha Skill Development Authority. He tweeted that Mindtree has not been designed as an “asset” to be bought and sold. It is a national resource and has a unique culture that humanises the idea of business.
