Ahead of the Mobile World Congress 2017, telecom industry’s biggest global event, devices makers began showcasing their products that included handsets and networking equipment as the industry is gearing up for 5G technologies.
The global industry event, MWC starts on Monday and runs till Thursday, March 2.
Making a comeback in the handset market, brand Nokia announced the relaunch of its iconic handset 3310 and a range of Android-based smartphones (Nokia 6, Nokia 5 and Nokia 3) and resurrection of its popular snake game. The products would be available by the second quarter of this calendar year.
“It’s a new era for the Nokia brand, but it’s a category for which Nokia has been known across the world. Nokia today is mostly a business-to-business company, with revenues mostly coming from networks business,” Nokia chief executive officer Rajeev Suri, adding that the company now has a number of customer-facing products such as watches, cameras, smartphones and digital including Virtual Reality (VR) among others.
Samsung Electronics has launched two tablets - Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 and Samsung Galaxy Book - with advanced computing technologies, both devices supporting Pogo keyboards with no separate charging or pairing required. Both tablets are shipped with 13 MP rear camera and a 5 MP front camera.
“Our new tablet portfolio is built with premium technology that delivers a productive and versatile experience to consumers, designed for users at home, work or on the go,” said DJ Koh, President of Mobile Communications Business, Samsung Electronics.
The company also unveiled a portfolio of 5G mobile network products, including consumer devices for fixed wireless access connectivity and a 5G Radio Base Station.
LG announced G6, its latest flagship smartphone and the successor to the G5, Huawei launched two new phones P10 and P10 Plus, while Sony, Oppo and others are expected to unveil new handsets.
