Keeping with the trend of introducing affordable smartphones, Motorola Mobility on Tuesday launched a sub-₹10,000 handset called Moto E.
Priced at ₹6,990, the device will be available exclusively through Flipkart.com starting Wednesday.
Motorola said that it was targeting the youth segment by selling on an e-commerce platform.
“It is a space, which is expanding very fast and that is why we did with Moto G and Moto X too. This partnership is phenomenally good and it is to ensure that Flipkart and we strengthen this relationship even going forward,” Amit Boni, Managing Director, Motorola Mobility, told
He said the company is also not looking at market share or revenues right now, but to focus around delivering right devices to the consumers through right channels.
On competition with other companies such as Samsung, Nokia, and home-grown firms such as Micromax and Karbonn, Boni said that if the products are right, the company will automatically gain some market shares.
According to Manasi Yadav, Senior Market Analyst – mobile phones and tablets at IDC India, Motorola Mobility’s new avatar of selling such products through online store might work well going by the grand success of Moto G.
“Also, the pricing is very competitive and with features such as 4.3-inch display with water resistance and great resolution are definitely plus points for the product to do well,” she said.
Apart from the large screen size at such price point, the Moto E has Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 processor with dual-core CPU, 1GB RAM and a microSD slot for up to 32GB of expandable memory. It runs on the latest Android 4.4.2 (KitKat) operating system.
It has a 5MP rear-facing camera with Motorola’s streamlined camera interface — touch anywhere on the screen to take a shot, capture panoramic pictures or record video.
The dual-SIM phone has a 1980 mAh battery, which could last a day, the company said.
