The likes of Micromax, Samsung and Xiaomi will soon have more competition in the market with Reliance Industries planning to launch its own brand of 4G smartphones under the brand ‘LYF’. The product will be sold in the market by Reliance Retail.
Though the company did not reveal the price of the phone, RIL Chairman Mukesh Ambani had recently said the company would be looking at introducing 4G smartphones at prices below ₹4,000. The phones will be launched this Diwali.
“The brand built on the premise of unmatched user experience will offer high performance handsets that deliver a true 4G experience comparable to the best in the world,” Reliance Industries said in a press statement on Friday. “LYF range of smartphones with superior features like voice over LTE , voice over Wi-Fi , HD voice and HD quality video calling will enable users to experience a new digital life," it added. The devices will soon be available at multi-brand outlets and modern trade including Reliance Retail stores across the country.
According to the Quarterly Mobile Tracker published by International Data Corporation (IDC), Samsung, Micromax, and Intex were the top smartphone vendors in the second quarter of 2015. Smartphone shipments grew to 26.5 million units in the second quarter, which is up 44 per cent from 18.4 million units shipped in the same period last year.
