Taiwan-based smartphone-maker HTC in next four-five months will take a final decision on manufacturing its products in India.
“There are multiple options under considerations and hopefully in four-five months, we will be able to decide something. It’s not only about manufacturing, but also about phone’s design, research and development,” Chialin Chang, President of Global Sales, Chief Financial Officer, HTC.
Finding a local partner for manufacturing was another option, Chang told BusinessLine at the sidelines of its One M9+ smartphone launch here.
Before delivering a phone to the customer, HTC wants to make sure the whole process is seamless and quality is ensured, he said.
“There is a different consideration…certain products go straight from HTC factory (in Taiwan) or find local partner working together and make sure the quality is not compromised from the supply chain (for components),” Chang said.
The Indian government has been inviting companies to set up manufacturing base here and also stating that it can give more incentives. Recently, it had told Apple that the government could consider more incentives if the company decides to set up research and development or manufacturing plant here.
Meanwhile, HTC said the company is targeting a 10 per cent share in the Indian smartphones market, from the current six per cent, by the fourth quarter this year.
More new products The company will launch more products with latest technology and innovations around 4G, both on Android and Windows operating system platforms, especially on the price brackets of ₹10,000-25,000, where the most buyers are there, Chang said.
The company launched One M9+ priced at ₹52,500 on Tuesday, which will be available from early next month.
The handset has all-metal design and combines it with new enhancements, including a 13.20 cm (5.2-inch) 2K display with fingerprint authentication, HTC BoomSound with Dolby Audio surround sound and an improved duo camera for professional photography.
It also supports up to 2TB micro SD storage to store more files. It will come with 3GB RAM and a 32GB on-board storage version.
It will also come with one-year insurance package that will compensate consumers for any accidental or liquid damages. Applicable from the date of purchase, this package also includes a pick-up and drop service for all insurance related matters, the company said.
Discount vouchers To add to this, users of the One M9+ can also avail themselves of discount vouchers worth ₹15,000 from fashion and lifestyle portal Myntra.com, it added.
The company also unveiled two other smartphones — E9+ and 326G — which will hit the market in the near future.
