More than half of Amazon’s sellers, buyers from non-metros

The company which began its Indian operations in June 2013 with 106 sellers has more than one lakh active sellers on board

More than half of the over one lakh sellers registered on e-commerce major Amazon in India so far and over 60% of all its buyers come from non-metro regions of the country.

“Nearly 65% of our traffic comes from non metros which accounts for more than 50% of the sellers and over 60% of buyers,” Rohit Kulkarni, senior manager, new initiatives, Seller Services, Amazon India said.

The company which began its Indian operations in June 2013 with 106 sellers has more than one lakh active sellers on board he said, adding that around 75% of the demand is serviced through Fulfilment by Amazon (FBA) route.

With Maharashtra housing 33% of its total strength of sellers, on October 6, Amazon is set to open a new fulfilment centre (warehouse). This will be its third in the State after Mumbai and Nagpur, and the 21st in the country.
