BVR Mohan Reddy, the newly-appointed Vice-Chairman of the National Association of Software and Services Companies (Nasscom), has said he will bring increase the industry body’s focus on the engineering sector of the IT sector.
The Chairman and Managing Director of Infotech Enterprises is the first Nasscom Vice-Chairman to represent this niche segment of the industry. Engineering currently contributes $10 billion to the $108 billion IT-BPO industry in the country.
“I will bring more focus to this area, which is currently at $10 billion and likely to grow to $30 billion by 2020,” Reddy told
Speaking about the industry as a whole, he said Nasscom would focus this year on empowering industry councils, promoting start-ups and innovation and strengthening the ecosystem for improving the quality of talent and skill.
“We will also make efforts to create a strong domestic demand,” he added.
BVR Mohan Reddy is the second Telugu to hold the Nasscom position after the now-discredited Satyam Computer Services founder Ramalinga Raju.
Mohan Reddy is currently driving a brand makeover at his company Infotech Enterprises.
The board has proposed rechristening the 20-year-old firm as Cyient to acquire a unique identity and shed a ‘generic’ name.
The company is in the process of getting shareholder approval through postal ballot. Once the statutory clearances are received, the company will acquire the new name in the first week of May.
