Senior officials from US-based technology major Apple met Commerce & Industry Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Tuesday to discuss conditions under which the company could start manufacturing its phones in the country.
Priya Balasubramaniam, VP Global Operations, Apple, and her colleagues laid out Apple’s business plans for the country which could include a possible setting up of manufacturing base, a DIPP official said. Officials from Apple are also scheduled to meet a group of senior officials from ministries, including IT and finance, commerce, industrial policy and promotion, revenue, environment and forest, electronics and information technology on Wednesday.
