The Noida District Magistrate has told HCL Technologies to come out with a plan of action by next week to on-board freshers who are protesting against the company for not giving them joining dates yet.
The magistrate met about 40 engineering freshers and two officials from the company, including Nitin Pande, Vice-President-HR, HCL Technologies.
While the engineers have sought to join the company immediately, HCL Technologies is maintaining that it would be able to give them joining dates by August.
The Magistrate has told them to come next Monday and resolve the issue. “We had a meeting with both the parties and told the company to submit a plan of action to give them joining dates before August because these freshers cannot wait for long,” Rajesh Kumar, District Magistrate, Noida told
The ongoing protest by engineering freshers against HCL Technologies took a new turn last Tuesday with the Uttar Pradesh police intervening in the case.
The police asked the graduates to take legal recourse instead of holding street protests and promised to arrange a meeting with the District Magistrate today.
“The DM has told the company to resolve the issue by next week and if there was a protest or violence in the city in case HCL did not come out with a concrete plan, the company would be responsible for it and action would be taken against it," said one of the freshers attended the meeting.
Last Monday, some 80 engineers gathered in front of HCL Technologies’ office in Noida where the top brass of the company sits, including Vice-Chairman and Joint Managing Director Vineet Nayar and Chief Executive Officer Anant Gupta.
According to these engineers, the company hired around 5,000 freshers in September 2011 from various engineering campuses across the country. They were given Letters of Intent to join the company in a few months. But more than a year later, they were still to get their joining dates.
Engineering freshers are also conducting protests at HCL Technologies' other centres including Bangalore, Chennai, Kolkata and Hyderabad, said one of the freshers requesting anonymity.
