Nokia has begun a two-pronged strategy to tackle competition at top end and lower level. As it launched one of its biggest marketing blitz to reclaim lost ground at the top end last month by launching Lumia phones, Nokia has introduced three models, including two in Asha category, targeting competition in the middle and lower level segments.
These three models come with DRM-free (digital rights management) music service, giving access to 40 lakh legal digital soundtracks. They also have easy-to-swap secondary sim slot, allowing the users to manage multiple sims.
The company had introduced dual-sim phones last year, long after home-grown phone companies introduced them at low end category. Proliferation of local players offering phones with features that are hitherto available in top end phones has stirred up mobile phone business at low end.
“These models are set to revolutionise and democratise legal music consumption in India,” Mr Viral Oza, Director (Marketing) of Nokia India, said.
All the new phones in Nokia's S40 series would have both the in-built browser and the music window.
Web contacts
Meanwhile, the mobile maker has decided to discontinue web-based viewing of ‘Contacts' after January 24, 2012.
“Contacts on your Nokia phone will not be affected, and syncing or backup of data will continue normally. You can also easily export your synced contacts to your personal computer at any time, even after web access to Contacts is discontinued,” the company has informed its users through email.
