The Government may issue guidelines on new telecom licences called as Unified Licence next month.
“We are expecting that (UL guidelines) in the month of February. The detailed guidelines with regard to Unified Licence and the process of issuing UL and the process of migration of existing licences should commence,” Telecom Secretary R Chandrashekhar told reporters on the sidelines of an event here today.
The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has issued broad guidelines for Unified Licence in the notice inviting applications issued in September 2012.
According to broad features, telecom companies holding UL will be able to provide all services that existing licences permit as well as share spectrum and other active part of telecom infrastructure that were not permitted earlier.
