Google on Saturday brought out its ninth doodle for the London Olympics 2012. The sport it featured in its doodle is the pole vault.
The doodle has a female athlete jumping over a pole with the help of a flexible jumping stick.
The Google logo is visible in the background and is displayed to give an impression of it being hidden in the stadium. The stadium’s ceiling is painted in the colours of the Google logo, i.e. red, yellow, green and blue.
Pole vault is a track and lid event where athletes use a fibreglass stick to propel themselves over a bar. The height of the bar is raised in each succeeding jump.
The fibreglass sticks are stuck to a small box at the end of the poles, thereby enabling athletes to time their jump. Athletes use their speed, agility and the bend of the fibreglass stick to propel themselves and jump over the bar.
Athletes following the jump land on a foam mattress to prevent themselves from injuries.
