Oracle will focus more on Government projects in India. “We have won several projects from Government departments and agencies to modernise their IT infrastructure, increase transparency and enhance service delivery,” Mr Sunil Jose, Vice-President (Applications), Oracle India, said.

Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, he said it bagged works from Mishra Dhatu Nigam Ltd, the Indian Railways and several other Government utilities through its Oracle iGovernment arm.

He, however, declined to comment on the size of the opportunity and contribution from iGovernment.

The company, which has 26,000 employees in India, said there were walls between the Government and its constituents, such as people and businesses, as it started e-governance initiatives. “They have become expensive and suffer from lack of vendor support,” Mr Ashish Gupta, Director (Government-Education Applications), Oracle India, said.
