The two-day JaveOne and Oracle Develop 2012, which began here today, is turning out to be a big feast for Java developer community.
Oracle has launched a slew of releases that could make them busy for days to come. It also showcased the applications built on the new releases.
The international meet gives a general direction on how Java can be optimised for new application models and hardware, including extended support for scripting languages, increased developer productivity and lower costs, to support Oracle's overall integrated systems approach.
Mr Anil Gaur, Vice-President (Software Development, Java EE and GlassFish Server) of Oracle, said that it would launch cloud-enabled Java platforms by mid-2013.
“We realised that while people see interest in the EE 7 platform, now they wanted applications that they have written to be deployed in cloud environment,” he said.
“We are making it easy for them to take those applications and run it on cloud environment,” he said.
“We are coming up with a thin-server architecture that allows you to work offline also and you can synchronise with data when connected to the Web. EE 7 platform is planned to be shipped by the middle of next year and Project Avatar, though not yet a part of the platform, we are looking at shipping around the same time,” he said.
Java world
There are over 10 billion devices using Java. More than one lakh IT applications, over 40 million TVs, game consoles, Blu-ray devices and set-top boxes are built on Java platform.
It commands over 90 per cent of SIM card market in Europe, North America and Latin America, Ms Nandini Ramani, Vice-President (Java client and Mobile Platform), said.
Addressing the reporters here on Thursday, she spoke on the roadmap of new releases and likely applications that 90-lakh developers across the world can work on.
For geeks, it announced availability of Java Platform Standard Edition 7 (Java SE 7) Update 4 and JavaFX 2.1. This marks Oracle's first delivery of both the Java Development Kit (JDK) and JavaFX Software Development Kit for Mac OS X.
