Total sales of personal computer (PC) monitors in India fell by 13.8 per cent to 5.1 lakh units during first quarter (January-March) 2012 against 5.9 lakh units in fourth quarter (October-December) 2011 due to market sentiments.
However, light-emitting diode (LED) monitor sales touched 71.8 per cent of total monitors sold during the quarter to 3.7 lakh units against 3.5 lakh units sold in fourth quarter last year.
But, liquid crystal display (LCD) monitors' sales fell by 41 per cent to 1.4 lakh units during the quarter against 2.4 lakh units in fourth quarter last year, a CyberMedia research said on Friday.
Out of top 30 cities surveyed by CyberMedia, Southern India recorded highest contribution of overall India PC monitors sale with 41 per cent share during first quarter 2012.
Acer and Samsung together contributed around 55 per cent of total monitor sales within this region. Western India, Northern India and Eastern India came in second, third and fourth, respectively, during the quarter.
“Post six months of the Thailand floods, the average price of a hard disk drive is yet to normalise due to irregular supplies, leaving total cost of an assembled PC almost unchanged,” Mr Sumanta Mukherjee, Lead Analyst, CyberMedia Research InfoTech Practice said.
He said the resultant high price has suppressed assembled PC off-take that in turn has lengthened the business cycle for partners with limited access to working capital.
Schemes for end consumers included PC accessories, which effectively lowered the retail price, while a varying mix of nationwide and region wise promotional schemes were introduced to enhance channel sell-throughs, Mr Mukherjee said. The study covers five major vendors including Acer, Admiral Overseas Corporation (AOC), Dell, LG, Samsung, and some smaller vendors.
