Personal computer-maker Acer India on Thursday entered India’s smartphone market with the launch of two handsets.
The company launched two Liquid Z Series smartphones — Z630s and Z530 — priced at ₹10,999 and ₹6,999, respectively.
The company expects to sell around 2.50 lakh units per quarter. Acer India will manufacture the smartphones at its new facility in Puducherry where it has already invested $10 million (around ₹65 crore). The plant will be operational by next month, with a production capacity of one-lakh units per month, the company said.
“Once the initial phase is set up (rolling out the products in the market) we are looking at 2.50 lakh units per quarter. Scaling up will not be an issue because as a global company, we have already put in place the after sales service point,” S Rajendran, Chief Marketing Officer, Acer India, told
He said the company was not looking for any volume game as of now and will focus on profitability.
And, with right things in place like the features and battery life, the company said it is confident of making smartphones grow in its portfolio.
“Smartphone is one that is a smallest common thing that encompasses computing and communication together. It will always be evolving and at the time of entering a market, you got to make sure that it is right thing to do – technologically and more importantly emotional and humanely right thing for the market,” ST Liew, President – Smartphone Business Group, Acer Inc, said.
The company said it will expand its smartphones portfolio as the market evolve in the future and will also launch Windows 10-based handsets in the near future.
Meanwhile, both the new handsets will be available exclusively on Flipkart. While the Z530 is available from now, the Z630s will be available from November 12. Both the devices support 4G LTE network.
Features of handsets Some of the features of the Z630s (5.5-inch screen) and Z530 (5-inch screen) include 64-bit, octa-core 1.3GHz MediaTek processors and run on Android 5.1.
The Z630s has 3GB RAM and 32GB of internal memory as standard and the Z530 has 2GB RAM with 16GB internal memory.
Both the smartophones have 8MP wide view angle front camera as well as an 8MP auto-focus rear camera.
According to the CyberMedia Research’s latest report, the smartphone market in India reached 27.01 million units for the third quarter this year, up 15.5 per cent as against July-September quarter last year. Samsung leads the market with more than 24 per cent share.
