Led by poor purchases from all segments - Business, Households and Government, total sales of personal computers in India dropped to 10.8 million in 2011-12, said Manufacturers' Association for Information Technology on Tuesday.
It had forecast 11.8 million sales of PCs between April 2011 and March 2012 last year.
"The industry experienced very nervous business environment in 2011-12. The year has been plagued by many problems like hard disk shortage and inflation accompanied with rupee devaluation," Alok Bhardwaj, President, MAIT, said.
However, as compared to the previous year sales grew by 16 per cent. The industry sold 10.8 million units of PCs as compared to 9.3 million in 2010-11.
MAIT also projects the industry to grow in the current year (2012-13) after measuring all economic sentiments to 12.4 million units of PCs, he said.
