Equilateral Ventures — an investment fund at Yale University in the US — is planning to start a health innovation lab here to encourage innovation in the sector by start-ups and other IT firms.
The lab would focus on enabling digital health entrepreneurs to transform health care delivery and bridge the health wealth gap in the country, Raj Gorla, founder of Equilateral Ventures and CEO of health data analytics firm Contineo Health, said.
“We are exploring various options and would be meeting the IT companies here for establishing the lab” he said, adding that as a venture capitalist, he was focused on digital health companies.
He said that “healthcare is one area that requires technological innovations and these solutions while making healthcare affordable are commercially viable.” Healthcare products can be scaled up and customised to other developing countries, he said.
An MBA from Yale University, Raj Gorla was here to participate in a programme organised by Suraksha, a non-profit organisation floated by him in 2009, to present hearing-impaired girls with an innovative and inexpensive Bluetooth-based customised hearing aid developed by Sound World Solutions in the US. The NGO operates in Srikakulam, Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam districts.
