Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched Nasscom's Skills Platform that will initially equip 20 lakh youth with a variety of job-oriented skills. The Prime Minister remotely launched the platform and the three-day 26th Nasscom India Leadership Forum (NILF) and World Congress of IT.
The Prime Minister could not make it to the event and inaugurated it through video conference. The Centre will sign an agreement with regard to the skills platform later in the day. He said the number of mobile manufacturing units in the country has gone up to 118 now from 2 in 2014 when his government came to power.
Our Bengaluru Bureau adds: Nasscom President R. Chandrashekhar has identified 55 new job roles across areas such as Artificial Intelligence, 3D Printing, Big Data analytics, Robotic Process Automation, Cloud computing, IoT, Virtual Reality and Social and mobile. "This is in line with the effort of the Indian IT industry, aiming to reach $350 billion by 2025. Currently, the industry is worth $155 billion and employs around 3.8 million people.
Nasscom has roped in partners including EdCast, EdX, HackerRank, Udacity, amongst others, who will provide the training platform, which would be taught through a mix of online and physical classroom. Minister of Electronics and IT Ravi Shankar Prasad told BusinessLine that the government is working on the modalities of training, in terms of providing training subsidies in the above-mentioned areas.
