Nasdaq-listed Polycom, a video technology solutions provider, has tied up with the International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad, for collaborative research on new video and image processing products.

Polycom will be using the joint research programme to develop solutions for its own products that are marketed worldwide.

IIIT, through its in-house research facility, Centre for Visual Information Technology (CVIT), is working on several projects involving video and image processing solutions.  “The tie-up will give us a larger playground for research and bringing out new products.  We will focus on areas such as computer vision, cloud computing and pattern recognition,” Balaji Iyer, General Manager, R&D, Polycom India, told press persons here today.

Polycom’s product portfolio includes video solutions and voice conferencing solutions.

IIIT, Hyderabad, is currently working on a mobile application project that will enable a mobile phone user to take a picture of any heritage site and immediately download information on it on the phone. The app is in lab-prototype stage and is likely to hit the market in a year from now.

“We are also working on robotic navigation products that can be used in industries,” Vasudeva Varma, Dean of Research, IIIT, said.
