Foxconn workers along with their union leaders, including A Soundararajan of CITU, were today arrested when they tried to forcefully enter the company premises despite the company suspending operations from Saturday.
They tried to enter the campus, after break up in talks involving the union and management in front of the Assistant Labour Commissioner, Sriperumbudur.
The Assistant Labour Commissioner told the management to open the gates and not to suspend work. However, the company officials refused to open the gates, saying there was no production.
The police arrested them as a preventive measure and avoid law and order problem. They were taken to a wedding hall in Sriperumbudur and likely to be released by 5 pm, said a senior police official.
