Reliance Communications has started offering mobile connections to Aadhar cardholders after verifying their details online.
“We are delighted to be the first telecom operator in the country to test the concept of Aadhar authentication process at non-company owned multi-brand small retail outlets successfully. This service is completely ready for national roll-out,” RCom President (Service) Anurag Prashar said in a statement today.
Under the service, customers seeking RCom mobile connection will not be required to submit the photocopy of Aadhar documents. Customer’s details will be verified through biometric device connection with Aadhar server, the statement said.
To avail the benefit of this service, mobile customers can walk into any retailer in the country with their Aadhar card.
Real time authentication
The retailer will use customer’s Aadhar profile details and verify the details using a biometric device which will be connected online with UIDAI server for real time authentication of the identity of the customer, it added.
After the authentication, the customers’ details can be fetched online from UIDAI server. Customers’ mobile connection will then be processed with RCom for immediate activation.
“This online paperless process for instant customer verification and subsequent mobile activation at all multi-brand small retail outlets is set to provide a compelling new experience in terms of speed and convenience to our customers nationally,” Prashar said.
The service will be available on non-company owned multi-brand small retail outlets across the country which account for 90 per cent of the new SIM cards sold every month, the statement added.
