Reliance Communications (RCom) has signed an intra-circle roaming agreement with Aircel, even as it is in advanced stages of negotiations with several operators for similar agreements.
“We are already in advanced stages of talks with several operators across the country to put these agreements in place, and are announcing the first of many such alliances today, a pan-India 2G GSM ICR agreement with Aircel,” Gurdeep Singh, President and Chief Executive Officer (Wireless), Reliance Communications, said.
The 2G GSM intra-circle roaming (ICR) agreements would help the company offer wider coverage and uninterrupted service across the country. It would also help RCom’s GSM customers to roam on all partner networks without any additional costs.
These agreements would also increase RCom’s national 2G GSM network footprint by 10,000 base stations and addressable market to more than 150 million customers. It would add up to a market opportunity of more than Rs 10,000 crore.
All agreements with existing telecom operators are likely to be completed by the end of the second quarter of the ongoing financial year.
