Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd (RJIL), Reliance Industries’ wireless arm, has received clearances to set up international internet gateways for its 4G operations. The setting up of the gateways makes the company come a step closer to the launch of its 4G services.
The company, which is gearing up to launch 4G services this year, had earlier sought approvals to set up gateways in Mumbai and Chennai. The approvals were provided by the Department of Telecommunications, sources close to the development said.
RJIL will set up the gateways at Navi Mumbai, and SIPCOT’s IT Park in Chennai.
The final approval came following clearances from inter-ministerial group on Internet Monitoring System. The Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DoT), a State-owned telecommunications technology development centre, also approved setting up of the gateways.
RJIL had earlier received DoT’s clearance to provide 4G services across six circles, but with riders. Mumbai-based RJIL holds 1800 MHz spectrum across 14 circles and 2300 MHz in 22 circles.
