BlackBerry smartphone-maker Research in Motion India Private Ltd plans to expand its product and services to tap Tier II and III towns in the country. The focus will be on introducing relevant proposition for the consumer segment in these towns, said Mr Sunil Lalvani, Director, Enterprise Sales, BlackBerry.
The company which has been largely active in the enterprise segment, now plans to tap the consumer segment in a big way. “The focus on enterprise will continue to remain; however, we plan to lay a thrust on the consumer segment. We have been largely concentrated in the top ten cities, we now plan to move into the Tier II and III towns,” Mr Lalvani said.
Product designing, pricing
Product designing and pricing will be the key factors to be taken into consideration while catering to customers in these towns.
The enterprise segment accounts for a major chunk of the company's domestic revenues in value terms, however, the volume growth is driven by the consumer segment, Mr Lalvani pointed out.
The company holds a 15 per cent share in the smartphone market in the country. “The smart phones market has been growing at 80-100 per cent on a year-on-year basis and our growth has been higher than the industry. We hope to sustain this growth.”
Though Mr Lalvani refused to divulge details about India's share to the company's total sales, he said, “Close to 60 per cent of the business comes from emerging markets and India holds a sizeable share.”
