Gearing up for its 4G and digital forays, Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd (RJIL) has named Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan its brand ambassador. RJIL, the wireless arm of India’s largest private sector company Reliance Industries, will launch its much-awaited services 4G services on December 27.
“I am the brand ambassador now,” the actor said an TV interview to ETV, adding RIL Chairman Mukesh Ambani had explained to him the benefits of digital world, specially with the advent of RJIL. The technology and ideas of RJIL are “very modern”, the actor said in his reply to ETV Head Jagdish Chandra’s queries.
There is some more work to be completed on the end-user front, he said, adding the “soft launch” will happen on December 27.
There will be another launch around March or April, he said, referring to the commercial launch of the services.
“Shah Rukh Khan will launch Jio on December 27,” a company spokesperson said when contacted.
Explaining the benefits of a digital world, the actor said in the interview that there will be a lot of innovations, speed (telecom access), while the digital revolution will usher in innovation, more information and knowledge.
“I think we have only seen the tip of the iceberg in the digital world,” he added.
Earlier, RJIL in an internal e-mail to employees had said that Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan and music composer AR Rahman would perform at the launch event.
