Reliance Jio’s free welcome offer will cease to be available after December 3, the end of the 90-day period permitted for introductory offers after their launch.
RJio had begun services on September 5.
This was disclosed by the telecom regulator in a communication to incumbent operators. The operators had written to TRAI seeking action against RJio for allegedly violating interconnection usage charge norms and for adopting a tariff plan that was seen to be anti-competitive and predatory.
TRAI has told operators that it did not find RJio’s welcome offer violative of rules.
When contacted, a Reliance Jio spokesperson confirmed receipt of the TRAI communique. While the welcome offer will end on December 3, all customers who subscribe to the offer will continue to get free voice and data services till December 31.
RJio said the TRAI’s statement that its tariff plans were fully compliant with regulatory norms of IUC compliance, were non-predatory and non-discriminatory, clearly establishes that RJIL’s operations were in compliance with the prevailing regulations.
