Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar will both invest and promote Smartron, a start-up with ambitious designs to launch a slew of smart devices and Internet of Things (IoT) products during the coming financial year.

Sachin will be a brand ambassador and also a strategic shareholder in the global technology OEM company, Smartron India Pvt Ltd, with its headquarters in Hyderabad, according to a company press release.

The R&D driven company is headed by Mahesh Lingareddy, who is also the Co-Founder and CEO of Soft Machines Inc, a US-based semiconductor company with operations in the US, India, and Russia. Launched in August 2014, Smartron is pursuing the IoT wave by innovating in the areas of smart, sensor, robotics, artificial intelligence, cloud and big data technologies to bring next generation smart devices and services.

Commenting on the association, Sachin said, “I have always been fascinated by technology. Smartron’s founding vision for the need for a robust product ecosystem in the country to grow is impressive. We need to support brands that are “designed and engineered in India” by our entrepreneurs and engineers that ably compete in the global markets”.

Mahesh says Sachin disrupted the game of cricket and inspired generations with his exploits. “We at Smartron aim to achieve the same in the technology space by building a global product brand from India, disrupting the IoT market with innovative products and inspiring generations of engineers and entrepreneurs.”

Funded by investors from the US, India, West Asia and others, Smartron also has an R&D centre in Bengaluru and supporting teams around the globe to enable technology sourcing, marketing and sales.
