Samsung Electronics on Tuesday launched the Samsung Galaxy Mega, a device that combines the portability and convenience of a smartphone with the power, multitasking capabilities and viewing experience of a tablet.

Two models of Samsung Galaxy Mega, with 5.8-inch and 6.3-inch screen sizes, are the latest addition to the Galaxy family, the company said.

While the Mega 5.8 inches (qHD TFT Display screen) will be available within a week at Rs 25,100, the Mega 6.3 inches (HD Super Clear LCD screen) will be introduced in the market in mid-June at Rs 31,490.

Both the products run on the latest Android 4.2 Jelly Bean experience, and feature dual core processor, internal storage (8GB in 5.8 and 16GB in 6.3) along with up to 64 GB of expandable memory to store apps, music, videos, photos and more, it said adding that the smartphones will also have longer battery lives.

“Consumers in India as in other parts of the world prefer the larger screen displays in their smartphones owing to the time they spend doing more with their devices,” Vineet Taneja, Country Head, Samsung Mobile and Digital Imaging Business (India), said.

The Galaxy Mega will come with special offers from Reliance Communications and Vodafone. Reliance customers buying the Mega will get 2GB data free each month for 3 months and unlimited access to the Big Movies Library, unlimited WhatsApp, Twitter and Facebook during this period.

Similarly, Vodafone customers will get access to 2GB data download per month free for two months (3G + 2G).
