Samsung Electronics’ Country Head - Mobile and IT Ranjit Yadav has resigned and will be serving his notice period in the company till end of this month.

Yadav, who had joined Samsung India in 2008, has grown the company’s mobile phone business significantly in four years. From a market share in single digits then, Samsung’s share in the mobile phone space has grown to nearly 30 per cent.

Confirming his resignation, B.D Park, President and Chief Executive Officer, Samsung - South West Asia, told Business Line that the company will be finalising his successor ‘fairly soon’.

“Meanwhile, the strong leadership that we have in place in the Mobile and IT Divisions will continue to work as usual. We have a strong team to ensure that its business as usual at Samsung Mobile,” he said.

Ranjit Yadav’s exit comes at a critical time for Samsung when the Korean major is trying to sustain leadership position in the smartphone segment with tough competition from Nokia and Apple.

There were some reports saying Ranjit Yadav would be joining Tata Motors’ Jaguar business, but neither he nor Tata Motors confirmed the development. “It is a rumour and we do not have such information from our management,” a Tata Motors spokesperson said.

“The new organisation will be making the announcement once I join them,” Ranjit Yadav said. He declined to comment on the reasons for the exit.
