In a bid to counter the challenge from Indian and Chinese phone brands, Samsung Electronics Co announced the launch of three new smartphones priced between Rs 5,100 and Rs 7,400. This launch comes on the heels of players such as Xioami and Motorola launching new phones for the affordable category.
According to a report from Strategy Analytics, Xiaomi has became the world's fifth largest smartphone vendor for the first time ever in Q2 2014. Three of the world's top six smartphone vendors are now Chinese brands (Huawei, Lenovo and Xiaomi)
The three phones - Samsung Galaxy Star 2, Galaxy Star Advance and Galaxy Ace NXT, takes Samsung's sub-Rs10,000 category range to seven devices.
Samsung has introduced the new devices with offer of free internet of up to 200 MB per month from Vodafone for the first six months.
Powered by the latest Android Kit Kat and Samsung’s proprietary Touch Wiz user interface, the devices come with a new hardware platform which sports a 'One Touch Multi-Tasking' hardware button, enabling consumers to quickly toggle between apps and get a seamless experience. Galaxy Star 2 and Galaxy Star Advance sport a leather finish back. Samsung has also caught on to the increasing need of consumers to capture images in low light conditions, particularly amongst the youth, by providing an LED flash with Galaxy Star Advance and Galaxy Ace NXT.
The devices support 12 Indian languages including Hindi, Bengali, Marathi, Guajarati, Punjabi, Urdu, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Oriya, and Assamese.
