Mobile phone maker Samsung India on Tuesday launched a content and user interface in nine Indian languages that will be supported on its Galaxy range of smartphones and tablets.

The interface will be available in Hindi, Punjabi, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi and Gujarati, and users will be able to access it on their Galaxy Grand, Galaxy S4 and Tab 3 devices.

Samsung has tied up with Reverie Language Technologies to enhance the availability of regional language content to its lower-cost smartphone range also starting with the Galaxy Star within this month.

The Bangalore-based Reverie Technologies provides solutions such as fonts and rendering engine, keypads with predictive input capability and transliteration capability to render text in multiple languages in a phonetically correct manner.

“The number of languages being offered will also be increased. Availability of content combined with easy access is the key driver for usage of any language. We clearly sense a need and a demand amongst users to communicate in local languages using their mobile devices,” Vineet Taneja, Country Head (Mobile and Information Technology), Samsung India said.

Consumers will be able to access the applications at the Samsung Application Store in their languages including entertainment, games, utility, lifestyle, devotional and business, he said.

“We will not only work with content providers towards making more regional language content, but will also develop ecosystems by working with app developers,” he said.

Consumers will be able to interact in their own language using Chaton, Facebook, Gmail and Newshunt on the select products, he said.
