Launches three new models; expects range to contribute $4-b by year-end

Samsung India launched three new mobile phone models under its A series on Thursday, and hinted that the series has the potential to become a $4-billion brand this year.

The India arm of the Korean major Samsung said it plans to introduce at least one model every month under the A Series during the first half of this year, thereby consolidating its presence in this segment.

Aditya Babbar, General Manager of Samsung India, said, “Samsung is the No. 1 mobile brand in the country, with a market share of over 29 per cent. We expect that with the launch of these A series mobile phones, and in other segments, we will be able to achieve a strong double-digit growth this year, while retaining the leadership position.”

Babbar said the new Galaxy A smartphones cater to the young Indian millennials and focus on the way they are connecting today.

According to the company’s internal data, consumers spend 158 minutes per week on social networking sites and 206 minutes on mobile gaming on an average.

‘For millennials’

Babbar said: “Our Galaxy A smartphones offer the coolest new action, specially designed for young millennials and Gen Z. Centred around the generation on-the-go, Galaxy A offer capabilities to shoot videos in Ultra-wide, slow motion and hyperlapse modes. These features will transform the way consumers use smart phones by allowing real- time creation and sharing.”

While the A50 comes with a 6.4 inch display, triple rear camera and 4000 mAh battery, A30 sports a dual rear camera set-up and 4000 mAh battery.
