Samsung Electronics announced the launch of three smartphones including the Omnia W, its first Microsoft's Windows phone.
The company strengthened its portfolio with the launch of its first bada 2.0 device Wave III and its Android-based entry smartphone targeted at younger audience, the Galaxy Y.
Commenting on Samsung's strategy of supporting multiple platforms across its mobile devices, Mr Ranjit Yadav, Country Head, Mobile and IT, said, “By launching three smart phones across three different platforms and price points, we are giving consumers more choice.” With this, Samsung has a total of 12 smartphone models in the market, priced between Rs 6,710 and Rs 32,890.
The Omnia W has 3.7” SuperAMOLED display, 5MP camera and a 1.4GHz processor. There are a set of Samsung-exclusive productivity apps. This includes Samsung AllShare, which provides seamless content transfer between the smartphone and other devices such as HDTVs, monitors and digital cameras. The device is priced at Rs 19,900.
The Samsung launch comes even as rival Nokia announced that its first Windows Phone will be launched by the year-end.
The Wave III, is powered by Samsung's own new bada 2.0 platform along with a 4-inch SuperAMOLED display, a 1.4GHz processor and HSPA+ connectivity into a 9.9mm brushed-metal case. The Wave III is priced at Rs 19,600.
The Galaxy Y is powered by the Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating systems. The device has a 832MHz processor and is priced at Rs.7,830.
“Commencing with Galaxy Y which hits the market this week, all the three devices will be available for the Indian consumer in quick succession,” said Mr. Yadav.
