Shaji Farooq, a senior level executive at Infosys has quit the company to join rival Wipro.

Farooq quit Infosys after spending more than a decade in the financial services vertical, for which he was spearheading the consulting and system integration for the American continent.

In his new role, he is the Senior Vice-President and will spearhead the newly created ‘advanced technology’ service line and ‘go-to-market transformation’ businesses that will be overseen by Wipro CEO T.K. Kurien, according to reliable industry sources.

When contacted, an Infosys spokesperson said: “We don’t comment on individual movements.” Farooq’s exit comes on the heels of a series of senior level management exiting the company in the last 12 months. The company saw exits of board member Mohandas Pai, sales head Subhash Dhar and Ritesh Idnani who was the Chief Operating Officer of Infosys BPO.

The Americas, which contributes in excess of 60 per cent of its revenues, is seeing slowdown due to the global economic crisis thathas slowed down IT spending in sectors such as financial services.
