Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan and music composer AR Rahman will perform at the launch event of Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd’s much awaited 4G services on December 27.
The event is being held on the eve of the birth anniversary of Reliance Group founder Dhirubhai Ambani.
An email sent out to RIL employees by Mukesh and Nita Ambani, seen by BusinessLine, reveals that the launch event will start at 5:30 pm at the Reliance Corporate Park, which will be live telecast to 1,000 locations across the country. “We want every member of our Reliance family to participate either in person or virtually through a Jio telecast beamed live…,” the e-mail said. RJio’s 4G service will be initially available exclusively to Reliance Group employees.
Small-scale launchRJio is in a position to undertake a small-scale launch of its 4G services in select areas, particularly in Mumbai, by end-December, Bank of America Merrill Lynch said in a note dated December 15. The company’s network is already up and running, it added.
Reliable networkHowever, the pan-India commercial launch could be delayed till April or June 2016 to ensure a reliable stable network.
Many industry sources also confirmed that RJio, which had completed its minimum rollout obligations at least six months ago, would only look at a full-fledged commercial launch sometime next year.
Reliance Jio is expected to disrupt the telecom sector with a slew of services including video streaming, music streaming, money payments and video calling.
The company is the only private player with broadband wireless access spectrum across all the 22 telecom circles.
