Riding on the back of data growth, telecom operator Sistema Shyam TeleServices Ltd (SSTL) has narrowed its consolidated net loss to Rs 402.5 crore in the second quarter ended June 30. The company, which provides services under the ‘MTS’ brand name, had posted a net loss of Rs 844.7 crore in the comparable quarter of last year.
The CDMA operator’s consolidated revenues rose 15.09 per cent to Rs 334.8 crore, compared with Rs 290.9 crore posted during the same period a year ago, driven mainly on account of data revenue growth. Compared with the sequential quarter, the company’s revenues rose 5 per cent from Rs 318.8 crore recorded during the same quarter a year ago, SSTL said in a statement.
“These results are a testament of the market acceptance of our world class 3G plus network. Going forward, we expect strong momentum to continue, especially in our data business,” said SSTL’s Chief Executive Officer Dmitry Shukov.
SSTL’s non-voice revenues rose 14 per cent during the quarter, while its data card user base rose 8.5 per cent to 1.4 million subscribers.
The company, with operations across nine circles, recorded a 7.7 per cent rise in blended average revenues per user to Rs 115 during the quarter. This was also on account of increase in data, it added.
