Retaining small and medium size enterprises (SMEs) for long is becoming difficult, according to Prateek Pashine, President - SME Business, Tata Teleservices Ltd, which provides services under the Tata DoCoMo brand. This is not due to any deficiency in services from the telecom operator but because of the churn within SMEs, he said.
Nearly 30 per cent of SMEs shut down for various reasons. This ‘mortality’ problem is not seen in the case of large companies, he told newspersons. For instance, a number of small BPO units with 20-50 member teams wind up after doing one or two projects, he said.
Despite the churn, Tata DoCoMo is betting big on the SME business. Last fiscal, Tata DoCoMo’s SME business achieved a 20 per cent growth as against the industry growth of 8 per cent. “We are targeting a 20 per cent revenue growth and a revenue market share in excess of 10 per cent,” he said.
