In a bid to further strengthen its mobile commerce business, leading online marketplace Snapdeal has acquired a mobility solution company Letsgomo Labs for an undisclosed amount.
Letsgomo Labs, with a 76-member team, develops applications and provides solutions around mobile experiences, strategy and websites for companies in Silicon Valley, Europe and India.
Snapdeal’s co-founder Rohit Bansal in a statement said that over 75 per cent of its sales now come through mobile platforms, and the Letsgomo’s acquisition will further propel the mobile push. Early this year, Snapdeal had acquired Bengaluru-based Freecharge to focus on mobile commerce.
It also recently acquired Martmobi to enable seamless connectivity with customers' existing back-end systems, in addition to a real-time analytics engine to improve conversions and user engagement.
The acquisition is timely for Snapdeal as most of the e-commerce players such as Flipkart, Paytm and Quikr are giving a major push on m-commerce, which according to a market research firm Zinnov, will grow over 55 per cent year on year to $19 billion by 2019 riding on the growth of cheaper smartphone sales. In April, Flipkart too acquired a mobile marketing start-up Appiterate to strengthen its mobile platform and help the online marketplace in targeting users based on their activity on the app and website. Flipkart has also gone for a major revamp of its brand logo with a 3D structure so as to stand out among other shopping apps.
App-only push As a part of its app-only push, Flipkart has also shut its mobile site and redirects its customers to download the Flipkart app. For Flipkart over 80 per cent of the traffic is coming from mobile. Besides, Myntra, a fashion portal acquired by Flipkart in 2013, has also shut its website to focus only on its mobile site.
