Twitter India has launched an awareness initiative to address the needs of blood donation and increase blood donations. The initiative will be driven by Twitter Lite, a stripped down version of the main Twitter app.
“The state of blood donation in India is 9 million in supply and 12 million demand, according to WHO data,” said Taranjeet Singh, Country Director, Twitter India. Mahima Kaul, head, public policy, Twitter India added that Twitter will work with civic authorities, volunteers and partners with charities.
Through the app, people can request for blood donation with a tweet to @BloodDonorsIN , with their location as hashtag, blood type, mobile number and Twitter handle. Twitter will also support the implementation of an automated response solution to increase scale.
