Sony India on Friday said that a further depreciation of the rupee to the dollar might result in price rise across its products in the IT segment.
The company, according to Mr Sachin Thapar, Head IT and Mobile Division, Sony India, has hedged at around Rs 55 a dollar, till July, and is, therefore, not passing on the cost to customers and users.
“If there’s a further fall in the rupee; we might explore options of a price hike. If however, there is an appreciation of the rupee we are open to reducing prices,” he told reporters on the sidelines of the launch of a new range of Sony Vaio laptops.
Primarily dependent on imports, for its entire range of laptops and IT products including tablet PCs, the white goods manufacturer has already factored in currency fluctuations in its just launched Vaio laptop range (called Summerline).
Price hikes, initiated earlier this season, have varied between Rs 2,000 in low-priced laptop models to Rs 4,000 in case of the high-end ones.
