Sony Mobile Communications officially launched the Xperia S smartphone here today. This launch marks the debut of the company’s flagship Xperia NXT series of smartphones. The smartphones are Sony’s first launches since Sony Corporation and Ericsson parted ways in February.
The range includes Xperia S, Xperia P, Xperia U and Xperia Sola.
The Xperia S boasts HD technology on a 4.3-inch-display. It features a 12.1-megapixel camera with 1080p Full HD recording. It also includes a 1.3-megapixel front camera with 720p HD video recording and NFC.
The Sony Xperia P with its 4-inch Reality Display features Sony WhiteMagic technology for a brighter display and runs on a dual-core 1GHz processor.
The Sony Xperia U, with the processor as Xperia P, features a 3.5-inch display and a 5-megapixel camera. The company also introduced the Xperia Sola, which has a 3.7-inch screen, 1GHz dual-core processor and Sony’s revolutionary floating touch display.
All the handsets run on Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) and will be upgradeable to Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich).
The Sony Xperia S is priced at Rs 32,549. Pricing details of the other handsets have not yet been divulged but Sony has announced that they will be launched in Q2 this year.
