Tata DoCoMo has slashed 2G and 3G data access browsing prices by 90 per cent, joining three other operators in cutting mobile Internet tariffs.

Tata DoCoMo has slashed 2G and 3G data tariffs by 90 per cent for its GSM customers, effective July 1. The move will accelerate mobile internet adoption and usage, the company said in a statement.

The revised tariffs will be applicable on 2G data packs — recharge coupons 126 (2GB for 30 days), RC 149 (2.5 GB for 30 days) and RC 249 (3 GB for 60 days) and 3G data pack – RC 255 (2 GB for 30 days).

Customers who exceed their 2G or 3G data quantum limit, can continue to access high speed mobile Internet by paying only 1 paise per 10 kb instead of the earlier 10 paise per 10 kb data. This is a 90 per cent discount. This would also be applicable for national roaming customers.

“This will increase data penetration across segments and a 90 per cent discount will serve as a customer-friendly yet clear differentiator for our customers,” said Gurinder Singh Sandhu, Head Marketing at Tata DoCoMo.

Telecom operators were slashing rates to improve mobile internet adoption.

Earlier, Vodafone India slashed 2G data charges by 80 per cent across three circles in the country and announced plans to extend this across the remaining 19 circles in a phased manner.

Idea Cellular followed this by slashing 2G data tariff by 90 per cent in eight circles. The Aditya Birla group company reduced data charges to 2 paise per 10 KB, compared with the existing tariff of 2 paise per KB, effective July 1, 2013. The offer would be valid for 90 days.

On Monday, Bharti Airtel launched new plans slashing 4G rates by about 31 per cent. Prior to this, Idea Cellular slashed 2G data tariff by 90 per cent in eight circles across the country.
