Tata Teleservices Ltd (TTSL) will upgrade its wireless Internet network to support data transfer of up to 9.8 mbps across five cities in the next couple of months. The network would be strengthened across Ahmedabad, Pune, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Chennai. TTSL offers data services under its Photon brand across the country, except in North East and Jammu & Kashmir circles.
“At present, there is a huge demand for real-time consumption of Internet over various devices, versus the earlier deferred consumption. There is a rising demand for video versus text and need of accessing data over devices such as tablets, phablets and laptops,” Ritesh Ghosal, Head (Brand Marketing), TTSL, said.
At present, TTSL’s data network supports 6.2 mbps bandwidth across these five cities. This follows a similar upgradation across Mumbai, Delhi and Kolkata in August last year, Ghosal said.
He, however, did not divulge the investments required to improve the network.
“Eighty per cent of the Internet users come in from the top towns and cities, while we are seeing growth coming in from tier-II towns also. We spruce up our network across all the circles in a phased manner,” he added.
The upgrade will enable all existing customers to automatically access higher speeds, apart from providing superior video, faster uploads and downloads and audio and video streaming among others.
TTSL, which offers the Internet services on the 800 MHz spectrum band, is also planning to launch a series of pre-paid tariff plans.
