Tata Consultancy Services has painted an optimistic recruitment picture for 2015-16 by announcing its intent to hire more from campuses vis-à-vis this year.
The country’s largest software services provider is set to dish out job offers to 35,000 freshers from campuses as it seeks to benefit from rising demand for IT services and cover for attrition, said Ajoy Mukherjee, TCS’ Executive Vice-President and Global Head, HR. Last year, the company had given offers to 25,000 campus recruits.
“Last year, we went to 370 campuses. This time we will go to about 400 campuses. The process has started already,” said Mukherjee.
Usually, 70-75 per cent of the freshers who are made job offers on campus join IT companies. Entry level salaries at TCS, which reported an attrition rate of 12.8 per cent in Q2, start at ₹3.18 lakh a year.
TCS, which ended the second quarter with 313,757 employees, did not give an overall hiring projection for 2015-16. For the current fiscal, all indications are that TCS may add more than its stated target of 55,000 employees.
“I think we may overshoot the 55,000 target, but it’s too early to say by how much," he said. TCS had also announced that it will merge its subsidiary CMC, with itself. The appointed date for the merger is April 1, 2015. According to Mukherjee, the merger will not result in any job losses as each CMC employee will be inducted in TCS. “While there may be role changes at the management level (for CMC), our intent is to retain every employee,” he added.
