Coimbatore to host 3rd edition

The third edition of the current year’s TCS IT Wiz – an inter-school IT quiz is slated for August 24 at the Corporation Kalai Arangam here.

IT services and consulting major, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), which organises this annual event, says that there has been an overwhelming response among students to participate, as also to watch the show live.

The quiz is open to students from class VIII-XII (including Pre-University of Junior College students), and each institution is allowed to send multiple teams of two-members each to participate in the event.

Entries

Registrations have just started for the Coimbatore edition of the event. The organisers are inviting entries from the respective institutions. Entries can either be sent to TCS IT Wiz Coordinator at Kalingarayan Street in Ramnagar or they can opt for online registration at www.tcsitwiz.com, a company release said

TCS will hold the regional round of the quiz in Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Bangalore, Chennai, Coimbatore, Pune, Bhubaneswar, Kochi, Lucknow, Mumbai and Delhi. The organisers plan to include Nagpur and Indore as well this year, making it a 14-city edition.

Winners in the regional rounds will meet at the national finals in December to compete for the National Championship title.

While the winners in the regional rounds will walk away with a Galaxy Note each, the runners-up will be rewarded a Galaxy tab along with a specially designed winner’s trophy and the runner’s up trophy. The six finalists will receive an array of prizes ranging from laptop backpacks, USB pen drives, coffee mugs, binoculars, earphones and T shirts.

The quiz will focus on applications of information technology across various sectors such as world of Internet and unique Web sites, IT buzzwords and acronyms, IT Personalia - international, national and local, advertisements of IT and communication companies, software products and brands, history of IT as well as the humorous side of IT.

It will also cover areas where IT has made an impact - education, entertainment, books, multimedia, music, movies, internet, banking, advertising, sports, gaming, social networking, blogging and cell phones.
